Signs of a Bent or Misaligned Garage Door Track

Check for these:

• Scraping or grinding that follows the door up and down, rather than coming from the opener.
• The gap between the door and the track visibly changing as the door moves.
• Rollers riding up the side of the track instead of sitting in the channel.
• Rust or a visible dent, kink or flare in the track, usually at bumper height.
• Bolts you can turn with your fingers where the track meets the wall bracket.
• The door shuddering at the same point every time it opens or closes.

Garage Door Track Alignment vs. Replacement

If a track has drifted out of line or its brackets have loosened, we realign it and fasten it securely. That's the right fix when the steel itself is undamaged.

If the track has a kink, a crimp or a flared end, we replace it. Straightened track never runs cleanly again, because the rollers catch on the damage every cycle. Track is one of the less expensive parts of the door, and it's what keeps everything else running true.

Horizontal Track and Ceiling Hangers

The horizontal track above your car hangs from brackets fastened into the ceiling framing. They need to be square to the opening, level with each other and anchored into solid framing, not just drywall. Sagging horizontal track shows up as a door that runs fine at the bottom and struggles near the top.

The curve where the vertical and horizontal tracks meet takes the most wear, because every roller changes direction there. We check the whole run, from floor to ceiling, on every track repair.
